The first game of the day on Monday, August the 6th, went to extra innings with Whalley walking off in the bottom of the 8th inning to win 1-0 over Sydney. Sydney’s starter Reilly O’Rourke pitched 7 innings allowing only 1 hit, B.C. used 2 pitchers to get the shutout. Aidan Kerr went 4 and a third innings giving up only 2 hits with 0 runs, Nolan Weger picked up the win in the remaining 3 and 2 thirds. Jordan Deshane drove in the game winning run with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth. Sydney has an off day tomorrow, their next game will depend on other results. Whalley will play Regina at 3:30 tomorrow.

The first game of the day at the 2012 Junior Little League Canadian Championship was a marathon game. It was the visiting Atlantic representative Sydney (3-2) against the home team from Regina (0-5). These 2 teams put up a football like score, 21-9 for Sydney. Liam MacDonald and Adam MacDonald both had 4 RBIs. The next game for Sydney is tomorrow at noon against Whalley, Regina’s next opponent is also Whalley, they face each other on Tuesday at 3:30 PM.
The 2nd game of the day featured Thunder Bay and Lethbridge. Lethbridge pulled ahead in the top of the first on a RBI single by Shawn Grandmont, scoring Logan Ramsdell. Thunder Bay tied it up in the bottom half of the 4th on a RBI single by Devon Etheridge to score Bryson Aube. Southwest pulled ahead again in the top of the 6th with an RBI single by Treyd Hubka, scoring Bryce deBoer. Thunder bay proceded to tie it up in the bottom half on a RBI single from Tyler Minoletti, scoring Brad Thrower. Lethbridge answered with another RBI single from Shawn Grandmont, scoring Ramsdell for the second time today. They scored a total of 4 runs in the top of 7, to take the lead 6-2. They would close out thunder bay in order in the bottom half to win. Southwest’s next game is tomorrow evening starting at 7:00PM against Centennial at Spitz Stadium, Ontario will play tomorrow at 3:30 against Quebec.
The final game of the day wrapped up with Whalley taking this one in 7 innings. The final score was 9-6. For Whalley Clay Sandover went 1 for 2 with 3 RBIs. Sandover also picked up the win, allowing only 1 run in 3 and 2 thirds innings pitched. For Centennial Jarod McAusland went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs. McAusland also pitched 3 innings in a losing effort, allowing 2 runs with 5 strikeouts along the way. Whalley’s next game will be tomorrow at noon against Sydney, Centennial will face Lethbridge at 7:00 tomorrow evening. That wraps up the action here on what was a gorgeous day here in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Saturday’s games are all wrapped up at the 2012 Junior Little League Canadian Championship at Spitz Stadium in Lethbridge, Alberta. The Alberta champs are still on top of the standings after the 4th day, their record remains at 3-0 with a day off today. Lethbridge Southwest moved up in the standings after a 14-8 win in 7 innings over the previously undefeated Whalley, B.C. Whalley had the lead for most of the game, Southwest broke out in the 7th with 8 runs to take a 14-8 lead. Treyd Hubka closed out the game in the 7th to pick up the win Southwest improved their record to 2-1, with their only blemish coming in the third game of the opening day in a loss to the team from Sydney, Nova Scotia. Shawn Grandmont led the charge with a 3 for 5 effort from the dish with 5 RBIs.
In the early morning affair it was the NDG Lynx, from Montreal over the Regina Kiwanis Nationals, from Regina, Saskatchewan with a score of 10 – 5 in 7 innings. The starting pitcher for Quebec, Micheal Beruela went 6 and 2 thirds for the win while only giving up 4 earned runs with 9 strikeouts. NDG’s record is now 1-3 with the win, Regina’s record falls to 0-4.
The middle game featured the team representing Ontario, Thunder Bay, and the team representing the Atlantic region, Sydney. It was a close game for the most part, Thunder bay broke through for 2 runs in the 6th and for 5 more in the 7th. They took a commanding 9 run lead after the outburst of runs to take the game 11-2. Brad Thrower picked up the win in 2 and 2 thirds innings pitched without allowing an earned run. The Thunder Bay pitching staff only gave up 1 earned run on 6 hits to earn Thrower the W. Thrower also chipped in at the plate going 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs, his average for the tournament falls to .727.
The action continues tomorrow at 8:30 AM with Regina (0-4) hosting Sydney (2-2), the 12:00 game features Thunder Bay as the home team to the Host team Lethbridge Southwest. The 3:00 game is a matchup between Whalley, B.C. and Calgary Centennial, Centennial will be the home team. The Players’ Banquet is tomorrow at 6:30 PM.

Friday’s games are in the books at the 2012 Junior Little League Canadian Championship in Lethbridge, Alberta. The Alberta Champs from Centennial Little League in Calgary, AB moved to the top of the pack with their 3rd consecutive win, a 22-7 victory in 6 innings over Regina Kiwanis Little League from Saskatchewan. The BC Champs from Whalley Little League also remained undefeated with a 13-6 victory over Thunder Bay, Ontario. In the final game of the day, Sydney Little League from the Atlantic provinces knocked off NDG Little League from Montreal, Quebec 4-1. Sydney moved to 2-1 for the tournament while Quebec remained winless at 0-3. The host club from Lethbridge Southwest Little League (1-1) was idle on Friday.
Saturday’s schedule has been adjusted to accommodate Western Major Baseball League playoff action. The games have all been moved up to start earlier. Saskatchewan and Quebec play the opening game of the day at 8:30 am, Ontario and Atlantic meet at 11:30 am, while Lethbridge faces BC at 2:30 pm. The Lethbridge Bulls forced a game 4 in their playoff season with the Swift Current Indians at Spitz Stadium on Friday night with a come from behind 8-6 victory. Players in the Junior Little League tournament are guests of the Bulls for any playoff action occurring during the Championship.
